Akeem Davis Named to CFPA Linebacker Award Watch List

MEMPHIS - University of Memphis linebacker Akeem Davis has been named to the College Football Performance Awards 2012 CFPA Linebacker Award preseason watch list. Davis is among 41 players selected to the CFPA Linebacker preseason watch list that includes four others from Conference USA. The redshirt senior from Laurel, Miss., worked as a nickel back last season and started all 12 games. He is the leading returning tackler for the Tigers, posting 78 stops in 2011, including 57 solos. Davis led the team in interceptions with three and tied for the lead in fumble recoveries with four. The Tigers ranked in the top 10 nationally in turnover margin (T7th) and fumbles recovered (5th), and in the top 20 nationally in turnovers gained (T16th). Davis tallied four-straight games in 2011 in which he was responsible for forcing the opposing team to turn the ball over. In three seasons, Davis totals 22 career games with 94 tackles, eight tackles for loss and seven passes defended Memphis opens the 2012 season at home against UT Martin on September 1 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
