MEMPHIS, TENN. - The Tigers went through their first two-a-day session on Saturday at the Murphy Athletic Complex. The squad worked in shells and shorts in the morning and came out in full gear in the evening session.

The temperature dropped some overnight, making the 6:30 a.m. session more comfortable than some of the previous practices last week. Head coach Tommy West worked the team for nearly two hours, which included some extensive attention to the kickoff and punt teams.

The squad broke for meetings and then returned to the complex for the 5 p.m. session in full pads. The practice began with field goal work with Matt Reagan booting the kicks. The team then split off into position drills for nearly an hour before West called the Tigers up to explain what he expected of the short scrimmage he ran for the next 20 minutes.

The light scrimmage consisted of six series of five plays each with Arkelon Hall running three and Will Hudgens working two series. Brett Toney and Tyler Bass split the final series. Hall completed eight of 10 pass attempts and also had a couple of runs, while Hudgens completed three attempts, including a long reception to freshman Marcus Rucker.

"I thought this second practice was alright," said West. "It was good in places and then I didn't think we played with a lot of intensity once we scrimmaged a little bit. I was disappointed in that, but we will coach them up and get them better tomorrow."

Following the scrimmage, the team worked more on special teams, focusing on kickoff and punt returns. The Tigers will meet on Sunday and then will be back out on the practice fields on Monday. West said he plans for a more extensive scrimmage during Monday's practice.
