While the University of Memphis football team continued to make strides during the first day in full pads on Friday, Tiger head coach Justin Fuente was not pleased with the maturity level from his team during the workout.

"We're immature. It is okay to be young on paper but to be immature, that is inexcusable," Fuente said following Friday's practice. "We have to grow up maturity wise."

The team struggled after tiring during the practice and the performance became sloppy. Fuente said the squad needs to push through those situations. Still, he said the immaturity should not tarnish what the team has accomplished the first week of preseason camp.

"We have a long way to go but we got some work done," he said. "We made some strides. I'm proud of a lot of things."

Now the team turns its attention to its first set of two-a-day practices set for Saturday. The Tigers are expected to scrimmage some during the afternoon workout. Access to both practices is restricted.

Among other things, Fuente said he and the Tiger staff will be looking for execution, physical play and technique during the first scrimmage of camp.

"It will be mostly player evaluation and not much scheme evaluation," Fuente said. "We are not going to do a bunch of stuff that the defense hasn't seen and the defense is not going to do a bunch of stuff that we haven't seen. It is going to be pretty much put the ball down, play and continue to evaluate players."

With the conclusion of Saturday's practices, the Tigers will wrap up the first week of camp and have Sunday off.

The team will work out daily next Monday through Saturday with two-a-day practices scheduled for every other day beginning Tuesday.

Individual game tickets, including the opener against UT Martin, along with season tickets are available for purchase at www.GoTigersGo.com or by calling the Tigers Ticket Office at (901) 678-2331.
