Memphis, TN - More than 1,800 Tiger fans turned out on Friday evening at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium for FanFest 2000. The enthusiastic crowd was able to meet the combined Memphis varsity and freshman squads for the first time this fall. Tiger coaches spent an hour at the stadium meeting fans and being interviewed by WMC-AM 79 announcer and "Voice of the Tigers" Dave Woloshin before the team arrived. Woloshin presented each of the six new assistant coaches on his show and talked in depth about their assessment of this year's team. Head coach Rip Scherer took the stage at 6:30 PM and started the introduction of players and staff. Each group of players was greeted with a rousing ovation from the fans and after leaving the stage, mingled with the fans and signed autographs. TOM the Tiger attended the event in his air-conditioned trailer and fans helped celebrate TOM's birthday with cake and ice cream.
