Tigers Complete Second Scrimmage
Aug. 15, 2012
The University of Memphis went through its second scrimmage of the preseason on Wednesday as the squad closed in on reaching the halfway point of August camp. Wednesday's scrimmage culminated Practice No. 11. The team has a total of 24 practices slated before heading into its first game week. Following Wednesday's workout, first-year coach Justin Fuente said the team still has plenty of ground to cover before opening its season Sept. 1 against UT Martin. "I still think we have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball," he said. "I am sure when we look at the film we will see some bright spots. I'm kind of indifferent right now. I'm not sure how good or how bad it was." Memphis will be back on the practice field for two workouts on Thursday before scrimmaging again as part of Friday's practice. Access to the Tigers' practices continued to be restricted. The team will meet the public Aug. 25th when the program holds Fan Fest. Fuente said that the Tigers continue to take steps in the right direction but the squad is certainly not ready to play. In fact, his expectation will be the team continues to grow through the 2012 season. "I don't think we will be the complete product by Sept. 1st," he said. "The thing we have tried to talk about is how we progress through the season. Are we going to continue to get better and continue to lay the bricks and foundation of our program through the season and not just the first game?" Tickets for the season and the Sept. 1 opener against UT Martin are available for purchase online at www.GoTigersGo.com or by calling the Tigers Ticket Office at (901) 678-2331.
