Tigers Battle Heat in First Day of Full Gear
Aug. 16, 2000
MEMPHIS, TN - As the temperature and humidity continued to rise in the Mid-South, and with a heat index of nearly 115 degrees, the University of Memphis Tiger football team pressed on with two-a-day work outs --- this time in full pads. Wednesday was the first day of full gear for the Tigers, and the media was out there right along with them -- Not only covering Tiger practice, but also researching news stories regarding the heat and what the Tiger staff is doing to keep everyone hydrated.
NOTES FROM WEDNESDAY'S PRACTICE:
Redshirt sophomore tailback Sugar Sanders made an impression on the coaching staff with a 20-yard run in a goal-line situation drill to practice running out of the shadows of your own endzone.
Junior defensive end Tony Brown, who suffered a hyperflex of his right knee yesterday was examined by team orthopedic doctors who found no damage of the knee. Brown was cleared by the medical staff and returned to practice Wednesday at full-speed.
Two-a-Day practices will continue Thursday with a morning practice from 7:55 a.m. - 10:10 a.m., and an evening practice from 3:50 p.m. - 6:20 p.m.
