Tigers Scrimmage for Second Time This Week
Aug. 17, 2012
The University of Memphis football team scrimmaged for the third time this preseason and the second time this week during a Friday workout whose focus included special teams' situations.
"I think the kicking part was pretty decent and I was really encouraged by our scouts," said Memphis coach Justin Fuente following the late-morning practice. "I think they gave us a great look. Part of building a program is having guys who understand how to work. Those guys did it. We need to look at some of those guys to play.
"Some of those scouts showed up today and tried to earn a spot. I'm proud of that."
The Tigers will close out the second week of preseason camp on Saturday with a pair of practices. Following the weekend, Memphis will have just one more week of camp before the team turns its attention to Week One of the season. The U of M kicks off the 2012 campaign playing host to UT Martin on Sept. 1.
While he said there were some good things from both units, Fuente said he continues to look for more out of both the Tigers' offense and defense.
"It is how to be accountable," he said. "You can say you want to be a part of a program, but actually being a part of it and building one is a lot harder than just talking about it ... we like to talk about it. We got to do it."
