The University of Memphis held its final scrimmage of the preseason on Wednesday as the team moved closer to breaking camp and moving into game week preparations ahead of the Sept. 1 season opener against UT Martin.

"There was some good and some bad in it," said first-year Tiger head coach Justin Fuente. "There was some good focus. There were some good plays on both sides of the ball. There was some good attention to detail then there was aspects that are lacking. That is where we are at. I was pleased in some things and disappointed in others."

Wednesday's scrimmage focused all elements on the game, not only offense and defense work but also a strong emphasis on special teams situations.

Individually, Fuente said he thought junior quarterback Jacob Karam played better and Kevin Wright also did some good things. He also singled out some of the team's defensive linemen as having performed well including Corey Jones, Terry Redden and Martin Ifedi.

As camp culminates - the team still has practices slated through the week - the team will continue to fine tune while turning attention to full-fledge preparations for the Sept. 1 opener.

"We still have a lot of work to do," Fuente said. "We are going to try to take advantage of not being in school. There will be a lot of meeting time and working to get everyone's legs back."
