Memphis, TN - The Tiger football team broke camp on Wednesday with their final scrimmage of fall camp and now begin to polish the game plan for the season opener against Mississippi State on September 2nd in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. "It was a long hot scrimmage," said head coach Rip Scherer, "but we made it through and I saw some good things on both sides of the ball. I thought that Travis (Anglin) continued to make strides. He read the coverages, picked his targets and for the most part, hit his receivers." Anglin, a sophomore who had shoulder surgery in the spring, completed 9-of-15 pass attempts for 113 yards and two touchdowns. The Georgia native hit fullback Nick Tsatsaronis for a 12-yard score and then connected with tight end Billy Kendall on a 20-yard scoring strike. Kendall led all receivers with two catches for 41 yards. Sophomore running back Darche' Epting led all ground gainers with 58 yards rushing on 19 carries. Tailbacks Aaron Meadows and freshman Jeremiah Bonds added 17 yards each. Defensively, freshman linebacker Derrick Ballard logged eight tackles (seven solo hits), and added a quarterback sack and a safety. Senior middle linebacker Kamal Shakir had three quarterback sacks and safety Fred Powell added a pass interception.
