Michael Spurlock and Jake Kasser Earn Scholarships
Aug. 25, 2006
Kasser and Spurlock join Derek Clenin and Stephen Schuh on the growing list of local walk-ons who have earned scholarships in the last two years. Schuh was presented a scholarship last fall, and Clenin worked his way to a scholarship this past spring.
A senior linebacker, Spurlock played in 11 games last season, starting in two contests. He had his first career start on the road at Tennessee and had a breakout game, registering 10 tackles. He finished his junior campaign with 18 tackles and one sack. Spurlock came to the Tigers in 2003 after playing at Houston High in Germantown.
Also on the defensive side, Kasser has lettered the last two seasons in the secondary. He played in 11 games last year, starting in the first three contests. Kasser missed the Motor City Bowl after suffering a knee injury in practice following the regular season finale against Marshall. He ended the year with 21 tackles and a fumble recovery. He returned to the field for spring practice and was able to fully participate in all drills. Kasser prepped at Germantown High.
