Tigers Announce Game Day Concert Series at Football
Aug. 26, 2014
The Memphis Tigers are once again investing in the "game day experience" as athletic department officials released details of the Tailgate Concert Series, presented by Horseshoe Casino Tunica, on Tuesday.
The University Athletic Department, in partnership with Horseshoe Casino Tunica, will present free live music near Tiger Lane prior to each of the Tigers' first four home games of the 2014 season. Musical artists include local and national touring acts.
Headlining the concert performances will be Pat Green (Sept. 20), Thompson Square (Oct. 11) and Bret Michaels (Oct. 31). Local favorites Kevin and Bethany Paige will kick-off the festivities as they perform prior to the season opener on Aug. 30.
"The Tailgate Concert Series is another example of our commitment to provide one of the best game day environments in college football for our fans," Director of Athletics Tom Bowen said. "Our marketing team is constantly working on opportunities to enhance the fan experience and we believe this is going to be a big hit with Tiger Nation."
Concerts will be staged in the Tan lot just south of Tiger Lane, formally utilized by the M-Club. All concerts are free to the public and do not require a game ticket for admission. Games, food and beverage vendors and other attractions will also be part of the festivities surrounding the shows.
"Horseshoe Tunica is proud to showcase our support for the Memphis Tigers and community as the presenting sponsor for the inaugural Tailgate Concert Series. We know the Tailgate Concert Series will be as well received as the nationally-acclaimed entertainment we provide in Bluesville at the Horseshoe Tunica," Scott Barber, Regional President, Caesars Entertainment Mid-South.
Nationally acclaimed artists Pat Green, Thompson Square and Bret Michaels are tentatively scheduled to take the stage two hours prior to kick-off, immediately following the traditional Tiger Walk on Tiger Lane. Exact show times will be announced once game times are solidified by the American Athletic Conference.
Kevin and Bethany Paige, renowned for their long-running stand as the house band at Alfred's on Beale Street and a crowd favorite at the famous Peabody Hotel Rooftop Parties, will ensure Tiger fans are ready for the official start of football season on Aug. 30. The duo and their band, comprised of some of Memphis' best musicians, will keep the pre-game party in high gear for three hours leading up to the 6 p.m. kickoff.
Pat Green will bring country music to Tiger Lane in advance of the Tigers' tilt with Middle Tennessee on Sept. 20. Green counts 15 singles that have reached the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. His 2003 hit "Wave on Wave" peaked at No. 3 while his album of the same name was gold-certified.
Thompson Square, named "Top Vocal Duo" by the Academy of Country Music in 2012 and 2013, will perform before the first conference home game of the season when Houston comes to town on Oct. 11. The duo has released two albums, which have produced a total of eight chart singles, including No. 1 hits "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and "If I Didn't Have You."
Finally, Bret Michaels will rock the Homecoming crowd when he rolls into Memphis for the Tigers' nationally-televised, Friday night game against Tulsa on Oct. 31. Michaels, who gained stardom as the lead vocalist of the band Poison in the 1980s and 90s, has enjoyed a successful solo career as a singer-songwriter, actor, director, screenwriter, producer and reality television personality.
