Tigers Join with Kroger to Offer $5 Tickets for Season Opener With Duke
Aug 29, 2013
MEMPHIS - In an effort to kickoff this year’s "Million Meals Challenge", the University of Memphis has partnered with 42 area Kroger stores to sell 10,000 $5 tickets for the Tigers’ season opener against Duke University on September 7 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The game time is slated for 3:30 pm.
The University Athletic Department will donate $1 from each ticket sold at the Guest Services desk of area Kroger stores for this special charitable event. If all 10,000 north end zone tickets that have been allocated to Kroger, are sold, proceeds will result in 80,000 meals for needy families.
The University of Memphis again joins with the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University, as well as area Kroger stores, in the second annual “Million Meals Challenge”. Last year’s competition, won by the Memphis Tigers, raised enough funds, food items and volunteer hours to provide 1,016,268 meals for those less fortunate in our communities.
“The Million Meal Challenge is such a wonderful competition that can benefit so many of our citizens that are less fortunate,” said University of Memphis Athletic Director Tom Bowen. “Memphis fans and staff, our friends at Kroger, as well as the supporters of Ole Miss and Mississippi State, went out of their way last year to make sure the goal was reached.
“The competition was very close throughout the year and the Tigers will have to work hard again this year if we expect to reach such a worthy goal.”
Memphis tickets for the opening game will be on sale at Kroger stores from August 29th through September 7th. Game day festivities on the 7th will begin at 12:30 pm at the stadium.
