Blue Line to Run Student Shuttle to Saturday Football Games
Aug. 30, 2012
The Blue Line is in its first full semester of routes, but is already adding an addition to its normal Monday-Friday slate. Beginning on Saturday, Sept. 1st, the Blue Line will offer the Tiger Shuttle from the Central Avenue Parking lot to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, dropping students off at Gate Six. The shuttle will be free for students with a University of Memphis ID and will begin running at 4 p.m., Saturday. Signage will be in place to guide Tiger Shuttle riders from the drop off point to the student tailgate area.
Shuttle riders may be accompanied by one non-student guest. The shuttle will run a continuous loop beginning at 4:00, picking up at the Central Lot near the Holiday Inn and dropping off at Gate Six at the Liberty Bowl. The Blue Line busses each have 26 seated spaces and two wheelchair accessible spaces.
After the game the shuttles will stage at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium to return students to the University of Memphis Central Lot. Shuttles will be available for up to an hour after the game to return riders to the Central lot.
For the first game, three busses will be used to make as many trips as needed to shuttle Tigers' students to and from the game.
The two regular routes The Blue Line buses run, the Main Campus Loop and the Park Avenue Loop, are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. Anyone can ride the buses during normal business hours. After 5 p.m., you must show a U of M ID card or be accompanied by someone with a U of M ID card. No money is collected to ride the bus.
