While many teams open their seasons this weekend, the Memphis Tigers will do just about everything a team would go through on a game weekend except play a real contest.

On Friday, the Tigers simulated both the squad’s Thursday and Friday practices during game week. Planned for the evening was a simulation of the meetings the team goes through the night before a game.

Ahead of Saturday’s Fanfest, a precursor to the 2013 University of Memphis football season, the Tigers will begin a day which simulates everything the squad goes through leading up to a game.

Fanfest begins at 11 a.m. on Tiger Lane outside Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. There will be a live DJ along with face painting, balloon artists and inflatables for children as well as an opportunity to purchase Tiger gear and season tickets at the event. While the event officially begins at 11, fans are invited to greet the team for Tiger Walk at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Tiger Lane.

At 12 noon, fans will be able to enter the stadium where the 2013 Tiger squad will conduct a mock game day walk-through which is expected to last an hour and a half.

“When we get on the field we will go through basically every scenario that you can possibly imagine,” Memphis head coach Justin Fuente said. “It will all be scripted out. We are just trying to get the freshmen, the new guys and even some of the old guys who have not played very much comfortable with where to go when they are not on the field, how substitutions work and other expectations. We want to work to eliminate the kind of errors that can creep up on you in an early ball game.”

Following the walk-through, fans will be invited onto the field at approximately 1:30 where players and coaches will be available for autographs and photographs.

“We want to make sure our kids and coaches are accessible to the people who love Tiger Football,” Fuente said. “We have a little work to do before we get to it, but afterwards, I am looking forward to sharing some quality time with the people who care so much for this team.”

The University of Memphis opens the 2013 season Sept. 7th when the Tigers play host to Duke. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
