Opening Statement
"Our kids are hard at work getting ready to play a very, very good football team. Obviously, when you look at Cincinnati they're in the top-10 nationally in defense. They're very physical up front. They do some things schematically that can cause you problems. I think their strength of their defense is in the front seven; as big and physical as a team that we've played in the front seven. Offensively, they've lost their quarterback earlier in the year and have done a great job in molding into their new quarterback and offense. They have some great skill kids on the outside that can really highlight mistakes in a hurry. I think our kids have done a really good job in this long week, not a bye week, but a long week in getting ready for the game and regrouping."

On evaluating the team halfway through the season
"We're constantly evaluating what we're doing on both sides of the ball, on special teams, our personnel and the way we're operating. I think it was a good time for us to do a little self-reflection and draw ourselves back together as a team."

On the team's schedule being stretched out this season
"I haven't been a part of a schedule that's basically stretched out as this one. We don't finish until December 7. I think it's a good thing. I don't know that it's had an ill-effect on anything. The bottom line is the schedule is a little bit like the weather - you have very little control over it so you need to find your best way to manage whatever it is. I think having a bye week early in the year was a good thing. I think having this little bit of extra time here before a Wednesday game and then a little bit of extra time before we play the next game is good for us. It allows us more time to continue to develop our young players and continue to coach up our older guys."

On Cincinnati's schedule thus far
"I think they're a very good football team. I think if you compare those two schedules (SMU and Cincinnati), obviously they're different. Cincinnati is a fine football team, and we will have to be on point on Wednesday to go out there and give ourselves a chance. They've obviously played a different group of people but it doesn't matter who they've played. You can watch the film and see that they're a fine defensive and offensive unit."
