Former Memphis Football Coach Honored With Field Rededication
Oct. 30, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis honored former football coach Rex Dockery with a field rededication ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
On Dec. 12, 1983, the then-Memphis State University was shaken when head coach Rex Dockery, offensive coordinator Chris Faros, freshman defensive back Charles Greenhill and pilot/Highland Hundred member Glenn Jones lost their lives in a plane crash on their way to Lawrenceburg, Tenn. The four individuals were traveling to the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club where the Tennessee High School Player of the Year would be honored. Greenhill had won the award the previous year.
On Wednesday, the families of the four individuals who lost their lives were in attendance for the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring those individuals at the Tiger Lane entrance to the stadium.
The plaque was donated by the Highland Hundred booster club and will be visible for all Tigers fans to see in the years to come.
