Homecoming Parade Set for Saturday Morning
Nov. 4, 2013
The annual University of Memphis Homecoming Parade, which has historically been held on the main campus, will change venues this year and move to the Fairgrounds Complex. The parade will be held Saturday morning prior to the Tigers’ football game against UT-Martin.
Participants in this year’s event will now stage their floats and vehicles in Tobey Park at 8:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the procession will leave Tobey Park and head South on Hollywood to Central Avenue. The parade will turn right on Central Avenue and proceed to Early Maxwell where a left turn will take the parade into the Fairgrounds Complex.
The procession will move South on Early Maxwell and cross Tiger Lane en route to staging areas or to Southern Avenue where the entourage will head East to campus.
The transition down Early Maxwell and across Tiger Lane will impact those Tiger fans which hold parking credentials for the Blue Lots and/or Tiger Lane. Individuals that use these parking areas are asked to arrive at the Liberty Bowl prior to the 10:30 a.m. parade start or after 12:30 p.m. when the event is slated for completion. Entrances into the aforementioned parking lots will be impeded due to the parade.
Fans arriving early for the Homecoming Parade are asked to line-up along the North section of Early Maxwell to witness the event and then make their way to Tiger Lane for the traditional Tiger Walk which will occur at 1:10 p.m.
Food and beverage will be served in the TSF/Alumni tent beginning at 12 noon. An admission fee to the tent party is charged.
