Nov. 9, 2012
MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis' Memphis Healthy U program is hosting a special event around the Tiger football game on Saturday. Memphis Healthy U is an initiative designed to encourage students, employees and visitors of the University of Memphis to eat healthier, move more and become tobacco free. Saturday, participants for the Tour de Tigre can meet at the Student Recreation Center at 4:30 p.m. in the South Parking Lot and will bike the 2.7 mile trek from campus to the Tiger Football Game.
The trek will leave the South Parking Lot at 5 p.m. with a U of M Police escort down Southern to Hollywood and to the stadium. University of Memphis affiliated participants (students & employees) will receive free tickets to the game and will be recognized at halftime on the field.
The bikers will ride back to campus at 9 p.m., again with a U of M Police escort, and can enjoy an after-game party with hot chocolate and treats at the Student Recreation Center.
All riders must register by Friday night and must meet the bike requirements of a bike, helmet, working light on the front of the bike, a flasher on the back of the bike, working brakes and a bike lock. To register, email Jacqueline De Fouw at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 901-678-4745.
Members of the community not attending or employed at the University can also participate in the ride, but will need to purchase their own game ticket and will need to sign a waiver release to ride with the group. They also need to register with Jacqueline De Fouw at the email address or phone number above.
