MEMPHIS, TENN. -
University of Memphis kicker/punter Matt Reagan was named to the Conference USA Football All-Academic Team as announced by the league office Thursday. The team, which is selected by the athletic media relations directors at each school, consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Reagan holds a 3.85 grade point average while working on a major in Earth science and a minor in mathematics. He intends to attend graduate school in meteorology upon earning his degree from the U of M. Reagan was a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award and also earned two academic honors last spring from the English and Geography departments. Last month, he was announced as a second-team pick for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honor.
Reagan has handled punting, PAT and field goal duties this year and, in his first season as the Tigers' punter, he was named a Ray Guy Award semifinalist. He is second in C-USA and ranks third nationally in punting average (45.5). He has handled all but one punt this season and totals 19 over 50 yards and has dropped 26 inside the opponent's 20-yard line. He is also 31-of-33 on PATs and is second on the team with 64 points. Reagan was named the squad's Special Teams Player of the Year, along with long snapper Keenan Bratcher.
