Tigers Hold Second Bowl Practice At Northeast High
Dec. 18, 2008
St. Petersburg, Fla. - The Memphis Tigers practiced for the second time at Northeast High School on Thursday afternoon, in preparation for the inaugural magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl this weekend.
The squad had a typical Thursday practice of nine periods of special teams work and then nine periods of offensive/defensive work. Later that evening, both Memphis and USF were taken out on a boat in the bay for a dinner cruise. The players had a great meal and then a majority of the players went up on the top deck for some dancing.
The Tigers will have their first opportunity to see Tropicana Field Friday afternoon at the 2 p.m. walk-through, which will follow the Kick-Off Luncheon. The luncheon, which will be held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort, will feature Lee Corso of ESPN's College Game Day.
The magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl, an ERT owned and operated event, will be played Dec. 20 at St. Petersburg's Tropicana Field and will be televised by ESPN2 at 4:30 ET. USF (7-5) is participating in its fourth straight bowl game. USF won the 2006 Papajohns.com Bowl. Memphis (6-6) is playing in its fifth bowl game in the last six seasons. Memphis has won the 2003 New Orleans Bowl and the 2005 Motor City Bowl.
ESPN Regional Television owns and operates five other postseason college football bowls: the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl (Fort Worth, Texas); the New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque); the Papajohns.com Bowl (Birmingham, Ala.); the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl (Honolulu).
