Fuente Announces Signing Of Four Standouts To Join The Tigers This Spring

University of Memphis head football coach Justin Fuente has been on the job just two weeks and today he announced that four players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Tigers for the 2012 season. All four will enroll at the U of M in January and will begin practice with the squad this spring. The Mid-year Junior College signing period is from Dec. 21, 2011 through January 15, 2012.
Joining the team for 2012 are tight end Jesse Milleson (6-4, 255), offensive lineman MarKeith Minnick (6-5, 290), linebacker Bronterrious Jakes (6-0, 225) and safety Fritz Etienne (6-2, 210). Etienne and Milleson will be juniors for the 2012 campaign, while Minnick will be a freshman and Jakes will be a sophomore.
Milleson transfers to Memphis from Glendale Community College where he tallied 11 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns in 2011. He helped his squad to an 8-3 record this past season. A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Milleson prepped at Sunnyslope High School and registered 28 catches for 382 yards and two touchdowns as a senior. He played both tight end and defensive end during his prep career and was named all-state by the Arizona Republic as a tight end.
Minnick joins the Tigers after one season on the post-graduate football team at Hargrave Military Academy. While at Hargrave, he started the final six games in 2011, and registered 11 pancake blocks. He did not yield a single sack as a starter. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Minnick prepped at Delaware Valley Charter School and protected a quarterback that threw for 1,215 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2010. He also was instrumental in the running backs combining for over 1,500 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns. He was named all-city and all-league and helped the squad to a 2009 city championship.
Jakes played the 2011 season at Holmes Community College and logged 65 tackles, including 40 solo stops as a freshman. He also registered one sack, three pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in 2011. Jakes, a native of Phenix City, Ala., originally signed with Arkansas State out of Central High before attending Holmes. He was a three-star prospect in the class of 2011 by Rivals.com and was the No. 39 player in the state of Alabama. Jakes finished his senior campaign at CHS with 110 tackles, including 65 solo stops en route to being named first-team all-area and all-state.
Etienne signed with the Tigers out of Coffeyville Community College, where he played strong safety and helped the Ravens to a 6-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in conference action. He was credited with 49 tackles, seven pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and one interception in 2011. A native of Miami, Fla., Etienne played linebacker and defensive end at Monsignor Pace High for coach Alvin Slaughter. As a senior at Pace, Etienne posted 109 tackles, including 15 sacks, en route to second-team All-Dade County honors. He helped his squad to three straight district championships and participated in the Dade vs. Broward Private School All-Star Game in 2009.
