Men's Golf Sits in Ninth After Day One in Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Memphis men's golf team shot an 18-over-par 578 through the first two rounds of the SunTrust Gator Invitational to end the day in ninth place. The Tigers finished with a 290 in the first round before firing a 288 in the second. "I thought the guys were a little rusty today coming out of the winter break, but they fought hard which is a good sign," said head coach Grant Robbins. "We still have 18 holes to go and are in position to make a move tomorrow. We just need to stay patient." Grant Milner led the Tigers in the first two rounds with a 2-over-par 142 to tie for 12th. Milner was consistent for Memphis with 71s in both rounds. Newcomer Thomas Perrot tied for 20th after day one with a 71 and 72 to total a 3-over-par 143 while Cory Gaylord moved up the leaderboard to 32nd in the second round with a 1-over-par 71 after shooting a 74 to begin the tournament. Rounding out the Memphis team was Will Pearson, who shot 74s in both rounds to finish with an 8-over-par 148, and Lexus Keoninh, who fired a 78 and a 76 to tally a score of 154. No. 23 Florida State holds the lead through two rounds with a 1-over-par 561 with No. 3 Florida and No. 34 North Florida tied for second with a 10-over-par 570. No. 31 Liberty sits in fourth with a 572 while UAB rounds out the top five with a 573. Keoninh will tee off first for the Tigers tomorrow morning at 9:20 a.m. (ET) to conclude the tournament.
