Tigers Take Lead In Florida Southern Tournament

Lakeland, FL - The University of Memphis Tiger golfer team, playing in their first tournament of the spring, Florida Southern's Matlock Collegiate Classic, holds the team lead after the first two rounds of competition. Memphis turned in rounds of 293-283 and has a five stroke lead over their next closest opponent. The Tigers enter Tuesday's final round of play with a five stroke advantage over Georgia State, a 10 shot lead over Top 25 ranked Kansas State, a 12 stroke advantage over Ohio State and a 16 shot edge over Missouri. U of M senior David Jeans, who tied for third in his last event, the Landfall Tradition, led the Tigers with scores of 73-68 for a 36-hole total of 141. Jeans' three under par total of 141 places him in a tie for second entering the final round. Greg Koch of Florida Southern University holds the individual lead with a score of 138. The Tigers' Allan Thomas posted two level par scores of 72-72 and is tied for 11th place. Alan Weant, who is tied for 17th, has a two over par score of 146, while Richard Jones is in at 150 and Clayton Ellis has a total score of 151. Final round competition begins Tuesday morning at 9 AM.
