MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's golf team had a successful opening day of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate as they sit in second place, and lead seven ranked opponents. Play began 45 minutes later than expected this morning with dew on the course, forcing the teams to not be able to finish the second round. Competition will resume tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.

"We played really solid today," said head coach Grant Robbins. "The conditions were extremely difficult and I thought everyone handled it very well. We still have a lot of holes left so we just have to keep plugging away."

The Tigers were in third after the first round of play with a 4-over-par 292 as Grant Milner and Steve Lee led the charge for Memphis with 1-under-par 71s to sit in a tie for second.

Lee is currently tied for second and one stroke out of first to lead the Tigers with an even par through 13 holes in the second round. Milner is tied for 15th and is at a 4-over-par through 14 holes. Thomas Perrot moved up more than 30 spots in the leaderboard in the second round, sitting at a 2-under-par through 12 holes after firing a 78 in the first round. Cory Gaylord shot a 75 to begin the day and is at 2-over-par after 11 holes to sit in a tie for 28th. Will Pearson rounds out the Tigers team in a tie for 39th after a first-round score of 75 and a 3-over-par score in the second round after 13 holes.

In the individual tournament, Alex Hoffman is in first with an even-par 71 while John Luke Tyner is tied for 15th with a 77. The two will finish play tomorrow with the final round.

No. 27 Auburn is currently leading the field at an even par with Memphis eight strokes back. No. 19 Illinois is one stroke behind the Tigers while No. 14 LSU and No. 46 Mississippi State are three strokes behind Memphis.
