Tigers Finish Sixth at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's golf team took sixth in a competitive field at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 876 (+12) to defeat three top-50 teams. Memphis slipped at the very end of the third round with a 293 (+5) from fourth to sixth as No. 23 Wake Forest and No. 46 Mississippi State were under par in the final round to surge ahead of the Tigers. No. 27 Auburn took the team title with an 861 (-3) while No. 14 LSU was four strokes back at 865 (+1). No. 19 Illinois grabbed third with an 870 (+6) in front of Wake Forest and Mississippi State, who tied for fourth at 875 (+11). Newcomer Thomas Perrot led Memphis, firing 2-under-par 70s in the final two rounds to make a sizeable jump in the leaderboard and finish with a 218 (+2) to tie for 11th in his second tournament as a Tiger. Steve Lee tied for 13th with a 219, one stroke in in front of Grant Milner, who tied for 16th. Cory Gaylord carded a score of 222 to tie for 27th while Will Pearson tied for 59th with a 232. In the USA Individual Tournament, Alex Hoffman tied for fifth with a 36-hole score of 147 (+5) after a 5-over-par 76 in the second round today. John Luke Tyner moved up on the final day with a 72 to total 149 and tie for eighth. Memphis will return to action on Mar. 4-5 for the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette at the Oakbourne Country Club.
