Tampa, FL - Tampa, FL - The rains set in during the first round of the Ron Smith/South Florida Invitational but they didn't have much of an effect on Tiger golfer Richard Jones. The freshman from England turned in a two under par 69 and is tied for third after the opening 18-holes.

Jacksonville State leads the team competition with a score of two under par 282. Georgia Southern posted a two over 286. Conference USA member Southern Mississippi is in third place with a 294, while Memphis and Arkansas State are tied for fourth at 295.

Georgia Southern's Justin Kolumber posted an opening round of 67 to lead all individuals. The Tigers received strong play from Jones, while sophomore Alan Weant turned in a one over par 72. Senior captain Chris Reinke shot a 76, while Michael Prieur carded a 78 and David Jeans, a 79.

Second round action will begin on Saturday morning if weather permits. Weather forecasts call for rain to continue throughout the night and into the morning.
