The final round of the South Florida/Ron Smith Invitational was played Sunday but the Tigers seemed to lose the momentum they gained during the opening round on Friday. Memphis, which was tied for fourth in the team competition after the first 18-holes, dropped to ninth during the final round on Sunday..
Georgia Southern, which entered the final in second place, posted a team score of 288-574 to win the team title. First round leader Jacksonville State, fell to second with a total score of 577. Conference USA member Southern Mississippi and South Alabama tied for third place with a 582, while Arkansas State placed fifth at 593.
Florida Southern's Steve Sokol won the medalist honors with a combined score of 138. The Tigers received strong play from freshman Richard Jones, who tied for second with a score of 141. Jones shot 69 during his opening round and posted a 72 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 141.
