Memphis Posts Rounds of 297-298 on Day One of Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. - Carlson Cox posted a two-round total of 140 (-4) to lead the University of Memphis golf team to rounds of 297-298 on day one of the 26th Annual Louisiana Classics. Cox posted five birdies and one bogey en route to a second-round 68 after an even-par 72 in the morning round and is in a tie for third position individually. "I'm very proud of Carlson and the way he played," Memphis head coach Grant Robbins said. The Tigers are in 13th position with a two-round total of 595 (297-298). No. 8 LSU (283-287) and No. 6 Ilinois (288-282) are tied for the lead after turning in six-under-par team totals of 570 on day one at Oakbourne Country Club. Kent State (295-278) is in third. Grant Milner carded scores of 73-78 (151) and is in a tie for 52nd position. Jonathan Fly (77-75) and Steve Lee (75-77) are tied for 59th, while Jack Belote is in a tie for 75th position after turning a 36-hole total of 155 (77-78). The third round of the 26th Louisiana Classics gets underway with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning. Live scoring is available via www.golfstat.com.
