Men's Golf in Sixth After Day One in Alabama

OPELIKA, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's golf team finished the first round of play in sixth at the Tiger Invitational before storms arrived, preventing the 15-team field from beginning the second round.
The Tigers put together an 8-over-par 296 to sit in front of four top-50 teams at the Grand National Lake Course. East Carolina leads the field with a 290, two strokes in front of No. 41 Mississippi State. Kennesaw State and No. 24 Wake Forest are tied for third with 293 while Charlotte rounds out the top five with a 295.
Cory Gaylord led the Tigers with a 1-under-par 71 after three birdies and one eagle in the first round put him in a tie for fourth after 18 holes. Steve Lee and Will Pearson carded 74s to begin the tournament to tie for 20th. Thomas Perrot fired a 77 to tie for 44th along with teammate Carlson Cox, who is competing as an individual for Memphis. Grant Milner rounded out the Tiger squad, shooting an 80 to tie for 70th after the first round.
Teams will begin play tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.
