OPELIKA, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's golf team finished the first round of play in sixth at the Tiger Invitational before storms arrived, preventing the 15-team field from beginning the second round.

The Tigers put together an 8-over-par 296 to sit in front of four top-50 teams at the Grand National Lake Course. East Carolina leads the field with a 290, two strokes in front of No. 41 Mississippi State. Kennesaw State and No. 24 Wake Forest are tied for third with 293 while Charlotte rounds out the top five with a 295.

Cory Gaylord led the Tigers with a 1-under-par 71 after three birdies and one eagle in the first round put him in a tie for fourth after 18 holes. Steve Lee and Will Pearson carded 74s to begin the tournament to tie for 20th. Thomas Perrot fired a 77 to tie for 44th along with teammate Carlson Cox, who is competing as an individual for Memphis.
