Tigers in 11th Heading into Final Round at Desert Shootout

GOODYEAR, Ariz.—The University of Memphis golf team posted a two-over-par team score of 290 in the second round of the Desert Shootout and is in 11th place going into Saturday’s final round. Steve Lee led the Tigers in round two with a three-under-par 69. Lee climbed into a tie for 30th with his second round performance. Jack Belote turned in a second straight 71 in the second round and is currently in a tie for 19th place. Jonathan Fly, who led the Tigers with a 70 in round one, posted a 76 in round two and finds himself in a tie for 47th position. Carlson Cox (73-74) and Lexus Keoninh (78-76) are in 55th and 84th, respectively. Eastern Michigan took control of the tournament lead with an 18-under par 558, four strokes ahead of Wichita State (14-under par 562) in second place. Kansas State fell to third place with a 12-under par 564 after Joe Ida, who entered the round in a tie for fourth place, was forced to withdraw with an injury. Memphis is in 11th place with a two-round total of 578. Xavier (11-under par 565) and Brigham Young (8-under par 568) rounded out the top five. Pacific, which entered the day with the lead, fell to sixth place with a 6-under par 570. The final round of the 2010 Desert Shootout will be played Saturday morning with the shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m. MT.
