Memphis Finishes Tied for Ninth in Rain-Shortened BancorpSouth Intercollegiate
April 5, 2011
MADISON, Miss. - The University of Memphis golf team posted rounds of 295-291 to finish tied for ninth in the rain-shortened BancorpSouth Intercollegiate. Tornadoes and severe weather forced tournament officials to suspend play yesterday with most teams through six holes in the second round. Because of flights and travel commitments, the event was shortened to two rounds, and teams returned to the course at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to complete the second round. Jonathan Fly paced the Tigers with scores of 71-72 as the redshirt-junior finished in a tie for ninth position at Reunion Golf and Country Club. Jack Belote finished in a tie for 15th with scores of 71-74, while Grant Milner tied for 35th after posting a career-low 67 in the second round. Lexus Keoninh (76-78) and Steve Lee (77-78) finished tied for 60th and 62nd, respectively. Memphis finished in a tie for ninth with UNC Greensboro with a 36-hole total of 586 (295-291). South Alabama (285-286) claimed a six-stroke victory over Southern Miss (290-287), while first-round leader Southeastern Louisiana (294-296) fell to third. The Tigers have a quick turnaround as they head to Wallace, N.C. for the River Landing Intercollegiate April 8-9.
