Opelika, AL - The University of Memphis Tiger golf team, led by the play of sophomore Alan Weant, finished eighth at the 2002 Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate played at Saugahatchee Country Club. Weant shot a one under par round of 71 on Sunday to tie for 10th place.

Host team Auburn won the team title with a three day score of 861. Southeastern Louisiana took second after overtaking SMU in the final round. Southeastern Louisiana carded a 867, while SMU finished with a score of 870. Memphis finished with a three day score of 892.

Kevin Haefner of Auburn claimed the individual championship after leading wire-to-wire. Haefner shot a nine under par score of 207. Memphis's Weant finished the tournament t with a score of 218, his lowest three round total as a Tiger. Sophomore David Jeans also carded a one under par round of 71 on Sunday and finished tied for 23rd.

The Memphis men's golf team will have a week off before competing in the Conference USA Championships.
