Men's Golf in Fifth After First Round of C-USA Championships
TEXARKANA, Ark. - The University of Memphis men's golf team fired a 3-over-par 291 to sit in fifth place after the first round of the Conference USA Championships on Sunday at the Texarkana Country Club.
Juniors Grant Milner and Will Pearson paced the Tigers through the first 18 holes as Milner carded a 3-under-par 69 to finish fifth while Pearson tied for 10th after a 71 in the first round. Freshman Thomas Perrot tied for 28th after shooting a 74 in the opening round, while senior Carlson Cox and sophomore Cory Gaylord tied for 47th with 77s.
No. 20 SMU holds a seven-stroke lead over No. 37 UCF after firing a 10-under-par 278 to begin the tournament. No. 29 Houston is one stroke back from UCF with a 286 while UTEP is in fourth with a 289.
Cox will tee off first for the Tigers tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. off hole 1. Memphis will be paired with UTEP and sixth-place Marshall for the second round. Fans can follow along with tomorrow's action by visiting Golfstat.com.
