Navarre Beach, FL - The University of Memphis Tiger golf team opened played in the 2002 Conference USA Championships, being held at The Club at Hidden Creek in Navarre Beach, FL, and are currently tied with Cincinnati for 10th place after 18 holes of competition.

The University of Southern Mississippi and TCU are tied for first with team scores of 291. Charlotte is third at 292 and South Florida is in fourth place with a 293. Despite being in 10th place, the Tigers are just nine shots out of first place at 300.

Bret Guetz of TCU leads all individuals after carding a six under par round of 66. Guetz has a two stroke lead over Chris Wheeler of Tulane who is in with a 68. Memphis had four players shoot 75, including Richard Jones, Alan Weant, Michael Prieur and Chris Reinke. They are tied for 27th. Sophomore David Jeans shot a 77 and is tied for 47th.

Second round action is slated for 8 AM today.
