The University of Memphis Tiger golf team improved 10 shots over their opening round score and moved from a tie for 10th place into a tie for seventh place in the 2002 Conference USA Championships, being held at The Club at Hidden Creek in Navarre Beach, FL. TCU holds on to a five stroke lead over second place UAB and an eight shot margin over Southern Mississippi and South Florida.
TCU posted a team score of 283 during second round action and lead the event with a total score of 574. UAB is second at 579, while USM and South Florida are tied for fourth at 582. Houston rounds out the top five with a score of 584. Memphis is in at 590.
Bret Guetz of TCU leads all individuals after carding a second score of 68 to go with his opening total of six under 66. Guetz maintains a two stroke lead over Even Frederick of St. Louis who had rounds of 69-67. Memphis top players are David Jeans and Chris Reinke are tied for 22th with scores of 147. Jeans shot a two under par round of 70, while Reinke was even par for the second round.
Final round action is slated for 8 AM today.
