Memphis Maintains Lead at C-USA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. –The University of Memphis golf team fired a 287 (-1) to maintain its lead after two rounds at the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship. The Tigers (282-287) have a three-stroke lead over No. 23 UCF (290-284) with one round remaining at the par 72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club. “Today was an up and down day, but the guys really battled,” Memphis head coach Grant Robbins said. “We are looking forward to tomorrow. We just have to keep playing one shot at a time and go out and have some fun.” Jack Belote, who fired a four-under-par 68 to tie for the first-round lead, posted a 71 (-1) on day two to lead Memphis and take a share of third individually. Grant Milner moved up the leader board with a one-under-par 71 in the second round and is currently tied for 25th position. Jonathan Fly currently sits in sixth place individually after following a 69 in the first round with a one-over-par 73 Monday. Will Pearson made three birdies on the back nine to recover from a rough start and post a 74 (+2) in the second round. Pearson is currently in a tie for 12th, while Steve Lee (73-82) is tied for 43rd. UCF posted a 284 on the day, best its first round total by six shots to climb into second place. Greg Eason fired a 68 for the Knights on day two to climb into a tie for first place with Roman Robledo of Houston on the individual leaderboard. UTEP's Martin Simonsen, posted the best round of the tournament so far with a 67 to move him into a tie for third place with Belote with at 139 (-5). Memphis and UCF will tee off the final championship round at 8:50 a.m. with third-place East Carolina, who also took eight strokes off its team score Monday. -www.gotigersgo.com-
