Men's Golf Finishes Eighth at C-USA Championships

TEXARKANA, Ark. - Despite firing the third-best round of the day with a 4-over-par 292, the University of Memphis men's golf team could not make a move up the leaderboard in the final round of the Conference USA Championships where they finished eighth with a three-round total of 886 (+22).
Junior Grant Milner led the Tigers throughout the three-day event by tying for sixth with a 1-under-par 215. Milner entered the final round tied for third and in position to make the all-tournament team but two double bogeys over the final seven holes dropped him to a tie for sixth.
Senior Carlson Cox tied Milner's first round score of 69 in the final round of play to move up from 49th to 28th in the final 18 holes. Cox finished with a 222 (+6), while junior Will Pearson was one stroke back at 223 (+7) after a 74 in the third round.
Freshman Thomas Perrot finished with a 229 (+13) over 54 holes to tie for 46th while sophomore Cory Gaylord carded a 230 (+14) to tie for 48th. No. 29 Houston claimed their first C-USA title since 2001 with a 7-under-par 857, finishing three strokes in front of No. 20 SMU, who carded an 860 (-4). No. 37 UCF took third with an 863 (-1) while UAB was 10 strokes back at 873 (+9) for fourth. Marshall rounded out the top five with an 878 (+14).
Houston's Roman Robledo took the individual title with an 8-under-par 208, finishing two strokes in front of SMU's No. 40 Bryson Dechambeau. Marshall's Nathan Kerns finished third with a 5-under 211, while UCF's Ricardo Gouveia carded a 212 and SMU's Mario Clemens had a 213 to make the all-tournament team.
The Tigers will find out May 6 at 9 p.m. if they will qualify for their third-straight NCAA Regional appearance. Memphis is currently ranked No. 59 by Golfstat and No. 65 by Golfweek.
