VERONA, N.Y. - The Memphis men's golf team wrapped up its first fall tournament of the 2012 season, finishing third with an 866 (+2) in the 13-team field at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.

"I thought the guys played pretty well today," said head coach Grant Robbins. "The course played tougher and we shot a pretty solid round. We just didn't take advantage of the perfect conditions yesterday. We are anxious to come home, get back to work and prepare for Minnesota."

Leading the way for the Tigers were junior Will Pearson and senior Lexus Keoninh, who tied for third with a 215 (-1). Both had strong performances on the final day of competition as Keoninh fired a 4-under-par 68 to move up from 22nd, while Pearson shot a 2-under-par 70 to climb up from 12th.

Redshirt sophomore Alex Hoffman tied for 19th after a 3-over-par 75 in the final round to finish with 220 (+4) for the tournament. Finishing behind Hoffman was redshirt freshman John Luke Tyner, who fired a 4-over-par 76 in the third round to bring his tournament total to 226 (+10). Redshirt junior Grant Milner returned Monday after not competing in the second round yesterday. In the final round, Milner shot a 4-over-par 76.

Redshirt sophomore Cory Gaylord was the lone individual competing for Memphis as he brought his total to 228 (+12) after a 77 in the final round of play to tie for 35th.

Missouri built an early lead yesterday and never looked back as the host school won by 19 strokes over Louisville, who grabbed second with an 861 (-3). Finishing in fourth was Central Connecticut State, who shot an 890 (+26) while IPFW was one stroke behind with an 891 to finish fifth. Medalist honors went to Missouri's Jace Long, who finished 15-under-par at 201.
