Men's Golf in 10th After Two Rounds at Gopher Invitational
WAYZATA, Minn. - Through two rounds of play at the Gopher Invitational, the Memphis men's golf team is in 10th place with a score of 604 (+28) at the Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn.
"I'm very disappointed in how we finished both rounds," said head coach Grant Robbins. "We have to be much tougher mentally. Tomorrow is going to be very difficult with the wind, so if we can stay patient and put together a solid round we will have a chance to move up."
Senior Lexus Keoninh led the way for the Tigers on Sunday with a 149 (+5), recording six birdies and one eagle on the par-5 16th hole to sit in a tie for 22nd. Keoninh along with junior Grant Milner had the lowest round scores for the Tigers on the day with a 2-over-par 74. Milner is currently tied for 31st with a score of 151 after tallying six birdies through the first two rounds.
Senior Steve Lee was consistent for the Tigers on day one, firing rounds of 76. Junior Will Pearson finished the day with 154 (+10), rebounding in the second round with a 3-over-par 75. After struggling in round one with an 11-over-par 83, sophomore Alex Hoffman moved back up the leaderboard in the second round with a 3-over-par 75.
California is leading the field by 14 strokes with a score of 564 (-12) while conference foe SMU is in second place with 578.
Memphis will wrap up the Gopher Invitational tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Fans can follow live stats at Golfstat while complete results will be posted on GoTigersGo.com at the conclusion of the tournament.
