Tigers Tie for 10th at Gopher Invitational
WAYZATA, Minn. - The Memphis men's golf team posted a 54-hole score of 922 (+58) to finish in a tie for 10th on Monday at Minnesota's Gopher Invitational in Wayzata, Minn. On the final day, the Tigers fired 318 to go along with round scores of 304 and 300 from Sunday's play.
In the final round, senior Steve Lee moved up 18 spots to 19th after a 3-over-par 75 to lead the Tigers over the two-day event with a 227 (+11). Behind Lee was junior Grant Milner, who tied for 39th with 231 (+15) after an 8-over-par 80 on Monday.
Senior Lexus Keoninh moved down the leaderboard in the final round after a 13-over-par 85 to total 234 (+18) and tie for 48th with junior Will Pearson, who shot an 8-over-par 80 in the third round. Sophomore Alex Hoffman finished the tournament with a score of 241 (+25) with an 11-over-par 83 in the final round of competition.
California took the team title with a score of 862 (-2), 14 strokes ahead of second-place SMU. Arkansas rounded out the top-three with an 888. Kent State's Corey Connors came from eight strokes back to grab medalist honors by one stroke with a 213 (-3) over Cal's Max Homa and Michael Kim.
The Tigers will be off next week before they return to action at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by UAB, at the Shoal Creek Country Club, Sept. 24-25, in Birmingham, Ala.
