MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Memphis men's golf team tied for sixth of 18 teams at the Saint Mary's Invitational in Pebble Beach, Calif., to open play in 2007. Two Tigers turned in top-20 finishes. Junior Jordan Payne finished in a three-way tie for 12th, and Ian Rochester finished second overall, just one stroke behind Baylor's Wesley Williams.

The Tigers finished the 36-hole day one with team scores of 305 and 288, which put them in fourth place entering today's final round. With a final round score of 301, Memphis wrapped up the inaugural tournament of the 2007-08 season in a three-way tie for sixth.

Rochester led the Tigers with consistently low scoring. He improved each round, opening the weekend with at 2-over par 74. He followed that round with two below-par performances, a 71 to finish day one and a 70 today to finish the tournament.

Payne's second-round 68 was a tournament best, and sandwiched between two rounds of 76, earned him a 12th place finish.

Robbie Greenwell (76-70-80) finished tied for 36th. Brad Benjamin (80-73-79) and Kyle Ritchie (79-81-76) rounded out the Memphis scores. The Tigers tournament total 888 was just four strokes behind No. 5 Eastern Michigan and 10 back of the leader, Baylor University. Memphis shares sixth place with Wisconsin and Nevada.

The Tigers return to Memphis to host the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club October 8-9.
