Round Three Stats Get Acrobat Reader

The University of Memphis golf team narrowly missed claiming its first victory since the 2008 Charleston Southern Spring Kick Off at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss. Jonathan Fly led the Tigers by posting a four-under-par three-round total of 209, good for T7th.

After taking the lead with an opening round 277, play was suspended in the second round due to darkness, forcing Memphis and the rest of the field to finish it up this morning. The Tigers would post a second round one-over-par 285, leaving them three-shots behind second round leader, New Orleans. The Privateers fired a tournament-low total of 14-under-par (277) in the second round the grab the lead.

In fourth place entering the third round, Southeastern Louisiana was able to pull out the come from behind victory by shooting four-under-par 280 in the final round. The Lions three-round total of 845 gave them a one stroke victory over second place finishers Memphis (846) and New Orleans (846).

Behind Fly, the Tigers were paced by redshirt freshman Carlson Cox, whose rounds of 69-72-71 left him in a tie for 17th place individually. Steve Lee narrowly missed the top-20, finishing T21 after a final round 72 at Hattiesburg Country Club. Jack Belote and Brandon Bunn fired final rounds of 70 and 72, respectively.

Memphis will not have to wait long to avenge the narrow loss, as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. on September 25 to compete in the Mason Rudolph Championship. Stay tuned to www.gotigersgo.com for all the latest news concerning Memphis Tiger golf.
