Belote Leads Tigers in Round One at Mason Rudolph Championship

Nashville, Tenn. - The Memphis men's golf team completed first-round action at the Mason Rudolph Championship Friday, tying for fourth place after 18 holes. The defending-champion Tigers went +4 on the day (288) led by senior Jack Belote at -1. Belote's performance landed him tied for fifth place after the first round. The senior birdied the par-four first and fifth holes while posting a bogey on No. 3. Fellow senior Jonathan Fly and redshirt freshman Cory Gaylord each posted rounds of +1 on the par-71 course. Fly posted three birdies on the day and was sitting at -1 until his final hole, which he double bogeyed. Gaylord had an up-and-down round competing as a Tiger for the first time after playing as an individual in Memphis' first tournament of the year. He tallied four birdies and five bogeys over 18 holes to tie for 20th place overall with Fly. Alex Hoffman, another redshirt freshman, went +3 on the day with two birdies while junior Steve Lee rounded out the Tiger squad with a score of 79, eight strokes under par. Newcomer Erwan Vielledent, a transfer from NAIA member Shorter University, saw his first action of the year with a score of five strokes over par. Second-round action will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course.
