Sept. 25, 2009
Jonathan Fly's three-under-par 68 led the University of Memphis golf team in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. Fly's 68, the lowest of his career, put him in a tie for ninth individually. Memphis is tied with MTSU for 8th after firing a team total of (-1) 283. "Overall, I thought we played pretty well today," said Tiger head coach Grant Robbins. "We just didn't get a fourth score." Behind Fly, Jack Belote and Jeff Hall posted a duo of one-under-par 70's and are in a tie for 24th. Lexus Keoninh (75) and Carlson Cox (76) are in T68 and T74, respectively. Arkansas State fired a 12-under-par team total of 272 to grab the first round lead over South Carolina (274). Georgia Tech (275), Ole Miss (275), and Notre Dame (277) round out the top-five. "If we can make a few more putts tomorrow, I think we can make a move," said Coach Robbins. Jonathan Randolph of Ole Miss carded a seven-under-par 64 to capture the individual lead. There is a six way tie for second. The Mason Rudolph Championship continues tomorrow when the second round tees off at 8 a.m. (CT).
