Tigers Finish Fifth at Shoal Creek Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -The Memphis Tiger golf team tallied a score of 877 (+13) over the two-day Shoal Creek Intercollegiate to finish fifth in the competitive 11-team field. For the tournament, the Tigers shot 290, 288 and 299 to finish just four strokes out of the top-three. Juniors Will Pearson and Grant Milner led the Tigers through 54 holes as the two tied for eighth with 216 (E). Pearson moved up the leaderboard in the final round, finishing with five birdies for a 1-under-par 71 in the third round, while Milner turned in a 2-over-par 74 in the final round of play. Junior Erwan Vieilledent finished with a 6-over-par 78 on the day for a total score of 227 (+11) during the two-day event to tie for 36th with teammate Steve Lee, who fired an 8-over-par 80 in the final round. Right behind Vieilledent and Lee was senior Lexus Keoninh, who carded a 4-over-par 76 to bring his tournament score to 228 (+12) to tie for 41st. LSU took the team title with a score of 864 (E), five strokes ahead of second-place Houston. No. 29 North Texas grabbed third with an 873 (+9), while UAB finished one stroke ahead of the Tigers with an 876. The Tigers edged out No. 14 North Florida by three strokes and four ahead of conference foe, Tulsa. North Texas' Rodolfo Cazaubon and LSU's Stewart Jolly and Curtis Thompson tied for the individual title as all three shot a 210 (-6), three strokes ahead of fourth. The Tigers will return to action, Oct. 12-14, when they compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by East Tennessee State, at the Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tenn.
