Oct. 1, 2013
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Memphis men's golf team shot a 12-under 276 in the third round of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate to finish 22-under-par and in first place overall out of the 12-team tournament.
"I am just so proud of these guys," said head coach Grant Robbins. "Today's round goes up there as one of the best I've seen as a coach. To shoot 22-under-par on a major championship course like Shoal Creek shows that we can play with any team in the country. We just have to believe in ourselves and keep working."
Freshman Lars Van Meijel shot a tournament best 66 in the third round to finish 8-under-par at 208 and tied for first overall.
Cory Gaylord shot the second best round of the day for the Tigers, shooting 4-under to finish the tournament at 1-over with 217 strokes. John Luke Tyner rounded out the Tigers scores, shooting a 5-over in the third round to finish with 232 strokes.
The Tigers are back in action Oct. 11-13 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn. The East Tennessee State hosted tournament will be played at the 7,147 yard, 72-par, Blackthorn Club.
