Cordova, Tenn. - The Memphis men's golf team shot a 5-over 293 in the first round of its own Memphis Intercollegiate on Monday morning to tie for second place after one round of play at the Colonial Country Club South Course. The Tigers are tied with Arkansas-Little Rock for second. Both team are six strokes behind first-round leader Central Florida, who had two players shoot rounds of 70 in the first round.

For Memphis, freshman Keven Fortin-Simard continued his hot streak to start off his career as he led the Tigers with round of 71 (37-34), his fourth straight round under par. He is tied for fourth with Derek Fathauer of Louisville. Justin Miers shot an even-par 72 for a five-way tie for sixth, while freshman Andy Shiels shot a 75. Another freshman, Robbie Greenwell, also shot a 75 while making his first collegiate start to round out the Tiger scorers in the first round. Allan Thomas shot a 77.

Individually, Memphis also started five players whose scores did not count toward the team total. Of those players, both Clayton Ellis and Ian Rochester shot 1-over 73 to tie for 11th place overall. Mike Regenold shot a 78, Gavin Aldridge shot an 80, and Lewis Clarke an 81.

UCF is the leader with a 1-under 287 team score. The Golden Knights received a 2-under 70 from both Andreas Hoegberg and Steven Bain. They are both in a three-way tie for first with Chad Grimes of Arkansas-Little Rock, who also shot a 70. Hoegberg shot the low round of the day on the back nine with a 31.

The second round will conclude tonight at about 7:00 p.m. Central time. The final round begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
