RALEIGH, N.C.— The University of Memphis men’s golf team is in eighth place after two rounds at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. The Tigers posted team scores of 297-287—584 at the par-71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course, Monday. Jack Belote paced the Tigers with rounds of 750-75—145 on the first day. Belote is in a tie for 25th position after the first day of competition. Steve Lee posted back-to-back 73’s to land in a tie for 32nd place heading into the final round. Jonathan Fly, battling food poisoning, managed to finish with scores of 76-73—149 and is in a tie for 50th. Carlson Cox (73-77—150) and Grant Milner (79-71—150) are tied for 57th. “It was a tough day,” Memphis head coach Grant Robbins said. “Jonathan was dealing with food poisoning and a couple others were really struggling with their swings. I thought we fought hard but just couldn’t get anything going. We just need to go out and put up a good round tomorrow and see what happens.” Duke leads after turning in rounds of 283-275—558, with tournament-host North Carolina State (285-276—561) is three strokes back in second. The Wolfpack Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday with the playing of the third round. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. (EDT).
