Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at Missouri

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The University of Memphis men's golf team finished sixth out of nine participating teams at the University of Missouri/Nestle Purina Classic, Tuesday. Memphis' David Jeans finished tied for 11th overall with a 212, while Alan Weant finished tied for 24th at 217. Kansas State won the team title and KSU's Matt VanCleave used a little tournament history to claim individual medallist honors after tying a tournament record 18-hole score by shooting a 65 over his second 18 holes, Tuesday. VanCleave finished with a 202, 11 under par, a new 54-hole individual record. Kansas State, which shot a 268 in the first round played Tuesday (a new team 18-hole record), finished with an 830, a record team score for 54 holes. Texas-San Antonio finished second with an 846, while host Missouri finished third with an 849. Southeast Louisiana finished fourth, shooting an even part 852 for the three-round tournament. The Tigers will be back on the links for the University of Tennessee Tournament of Champions, Oct. 20-21.
