Men's Golf Finishes Eighth at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. - Despite a much-improved third round, the Memphis men's golf team could not overcome a rough first day at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, finishing eighth with an 885 (+21) to conclude its fall season. The Tigers fired a 289 (+1) in the final round for the fourth-best round score of the day. Junior Will Pearson led the Tigers throughout the two-day tournament, finishing in a tie for ninth with round scores of 72-73-71 for an even-par 216. Senior Steve Lee moved up the leaderboard in the final round by carding a 1-under-par 71 for a 221 (+5) total to tie for 24th. Senior Lexus Keoninh shot a 1-over-par 73 in the third round for a 54-hole score of 224 (+8) to tie for 40th, while junior Grant Milner fired a 3-over-par 75 to total 226 (+10) and tie for 46th. Sophomore Cory Gaylord rounded out the Tigers team, finishing with a 2-over-par 74, his best round score of the tournament to tie for 54th with 228 (+12). No. 37 North Carolina took the team title with 854 (-10), while East Carolina finished second at an even-par 864. Host North Carolina State finished in third with an 878 (+14), one stroke in front of Western Carolina. Maryland rounded out the top-five with an 880 (+16). Memphis will open its spring schedule, Feb. 9-10, at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
